Knowing Your Tiara – Other Tiara Users in the World
The tiara carries a significance that oversteps the bounds of contemporary Western culture. So the next time you think about wearing your tiara, be proud and remember that you’re literally carrying thousands of years of history on your head!
The tiara traditionally refers to the ancient headdresses or high crowns that were used by the kings and emperors of Mesopotamia. The Assyrians used them with a pair of bull horns to signify authority and feathers at the top. Not exactly modern wedding material but definitely impressive! The Persian tiara looked more like a truncated cone. Not with horns and feathers this time but with several pieces of jewelry and a conic-shaped tip at the top.
The Roman Catholic Church has also made wonderful use of tiaras. The papacy has used tiaras as symbols of their authority. The papal tiara is a high cap surrounded by three crowns and bearing a globe surmounted by a cross.
But now in most Western cultures the tiara has ceased to become a symbol for authority but rather an item for adornment. Beauty pageant winners are usually crowned with tiaras. It is also worn by women as a circlet on very formal engagements that they have to attend. Nowadays even weddings feature a tiara (which is where you come in) as part of the entire wedding attire.
Although tiaras aren’t the symbols of rank and royalty that they once were, it doesn’t mean that you can’t rule over your own wedding with a stunning tiara.

The 3 Principles of Buying a Wedding Veil
With wedding veils now becoming more elaborate and made in bold new colors, it is harder to determine which one will look best with your wedding gown. The bridal veil is only a wedding accessory. It should not be the main focal point of your bridal ensemble. Keep these principles in mind when shopping for a wedding veil:
1. Less is more. If there is heavy embroidery all over the back of the veil, it will cover the back of the gown. If the gown has a corset back or an elaborate train, you want to select a wedding veil that has little or no embellishment. The beautiful details at the back of your gown will easily be seen through the plain, pencil or satin cord edge veil.
2. Plain veils look good with any tiara or bridal jewelry. Wearing a plain veil allows the bride to wear a more stunning tiara and choose bolder jewelry such as chandelier earrings. If you select an embroidered designer veil, then you have to choose a simpler tiara. A large rhinestone tiara and busy veil will overpower the bride’s face.
3. Elaborate veils look best with plain wedding gowns. A strapless, matte satin wedding gown, a style that has been popular for the past 10 years, will look perfect with a custom designer wedding veil. The elaborate edging of the veil will fall over the bare arms and embellish the plain back of the wedding gown.
Wedding veils trends will continue to be bolder and more elaborate in years to come. But as wedding gowns move on from the minimalist styles of the past decade, less elaborate wedding veils, such as plain, pencil edge and satin cord edge veils are a smarter choice.
