I Have the Dress -now What About the Tiara and Wedding Jewellery?
It’s gorgeous – your dream wedding dress and at last the search is over.
Ah , but what about the jewellery and the tiara to match it? Maybe you’ve never worn a tiara before and do you need a necklace , bracelet , earrings to go with it as well?
Usually the most important planning is for the dress and then the jewellery is chosen to go with it. Only occasionally as a jeweller have I met brides who have chosen their jewellery and then embarked on a search for a dress. I once spoke to a young woman who was looking for a wedding ring and I asked when her wedding was. She replied that she hadn’t met a man yet – she just fancied having the ring first – but that’s another story…
So here is a general guide to buying your wedding jewellery – of course all these guides and rules can be broken – if it feels right for you , then that’s OK.
The necklace is usually the easiest to decide on because you will already know what sort of thing you like. If the design of the dress is very elaborate , then choose a simple necklace and let the shape of the necklace follow the neckline – for instance , a “v” shaped dress looks good with a necklace. A gentle scooped neckline looks good with a round shaped necklace. An off-the-shoulder dress can look stunning with a choker or collar necklace. If the dress is more plain in style then the more elaborate the necklace can be. In this case , a matching bracelet or drop earrings can also complement the outfit. Brides with long necks can wear an elaborate necklace and long drop earrings very well. With a shorter neck , it’s best to wear necklaces a bit lower.
The tiara is the hardest to decide on – it’s not something you can wear every day as you can with the necklace , earrings and bracelet. It’s a good idea to try on as many tiaras as you can and see what suits the shape of your face. When you begin trying them on you may be surprised to discover that what you had been certain about , isn’t right for you. Generally , tall , curvy girls can look really good in a bold , large tiara and can take a tiara of 3 inches / 7 cms high. Smaller girls look best in a more dainty tiara with a height of up to 1.5″ / 3 cms.
A lot of my customers worry about how to wear a tiara , thinking there are definite rules – but there aren’t , it just depends how it looks. Most tiaras are malleable to some extent so don’t be afraid to adjust the base so that it fits more comfortably. Do you wear the tiara at the front or the back of your head? Again that’s up to you – and possibly your hairdresser to decide – but they can be held in place via a small hole in the back or even with some tiaras via a pair of plastic combs attached at the back.
If your tiara is very bold or elaborate choose a simple necklace or even omit the necklace and keep the earrings to a simple stud. This will ensure that the focal points of your dress look just right. If the necklace is highly elaborate , then perhaps a flower or comb at the back or the side of the head rather than a tiara keeps the balance just right.
Finally remember this is just a general guide and once again , rules can be broken – because once you look in the mirror and smile , you know it’s right!

Have your Tiara reworked into a wearable reminder of your Wedding Day
Your are now Mrs . . . . . The Wedding Day is a wonderful memory of a day when you and your loved one made your vows and were united together. The honeymoon is long gone and you have settled into married life with all it’s ups and downs! Mostly ups of course with your handsome prince!
Do you ever have a look at your wedding dress? Do you try it on and remember how you felt on your Wedding Day? Perhaps you even try on your tiara as well?
It is wonderful to keep these items and regularly give them an airing. However, have you ever thought that you might be able to take your tiara and have it reworked into a piece of jewellery which you can wear as a lasting reminder of your special day?
Depending on the components of your tiara this may be possible. If your tiara has been handmade with individual pearls and crystals, these can be removed and put together into a design of your choosing. Some components will need to be added eg clasp, threading materials.
It may be possible to have a necklace and matching earrings. Alternatively, perhaps a bracelet?
You might ask – would this not be quite expensive? However, this may not be quite as expensive as you might think and this means that you can wear elements of your tiara which you know was worn as you took your vows.
How romantic and special does this sound? You might ask your new husband to buy this very special gift for your first Wedding Anniversary perhaps?
It is definitely worth checking this out!
Good Luck!

Should I Wear a Tiara?
‘Should I wear a tiara’ is a question you may be asking yourself and if you’re undecided this article may help you to decide.
Tiaras were often worn at official functions by queens and princesses throughout history. They are still a status symbol today, as a wedding tiara signifies the most significant person in the room – the bride. So if you’re not having a traditional wedding dress, you should definitely wear a wedding tiara, it ensures that you can be seen as the bride in a crowded room and are the focus of the proceedings.
If you’re having a wedding veil, you should wear a tiara as it hides the veil comb well. Often brides remove the veil for the sit down meal also called the wedding breakfast as it gets in the way when eating. If this is your intention, by wearing a wedding tiara you’ll still have decoration in your hair once you remove the veil. You can buy a combined veil and tiara online, which may seem like a fantastic time saver, but it will give you limited options of placement. Plus once you remove the combined tiara and veil you’re left with no bridal hair decoration.
If you really can’t decide on whether you should wear a wedding tiara, think back to your childhood and ask yourself the following question. “When I was little and I imagined my own wedding, what did my tiara look like?” If the answer comes easily then a wedding tiara was important enough for you to think about it in detail as a child or adolescent. You might want to also ask yourself “Will I regret not ever wearing a tiara?” Listen to your immediate answers to these questions as you only usually get to wear a tiara once. It’s important to make sure you don’t regret losing the chance to wear a tiara and don’t dismiss your childhood fantasies as silly or important.
Before you decide a tiara definitely isn’t for you, nip to your local bridal shop and try one on, you might actually be surprised, then again you might not. When trying a wedding tiara to help make this decision, ensure it’s a tiara which will suit your face shape.
